Alleged impaired driver stopped on closed road

A 29-year-old Sarnia resident is accused of driving while impaired after they were caught travelling on a closed road in Lucan Biddulph.

Middlesex OPP stopped the driver on Richmond Street shortly after 1 a.m. on Wednesday. The roadway was closed between Saintsbury Line and Roman Line for a fire investigation involving two large barns.

As a result, the driver was charged with the following:

- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

- Driving on a closed highway

- Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

The accused was released from police custody with a future court date, scheduled for August 2.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
