High levels of air pollution are possible this afternoon.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING is in place due to the possibility of deteriorating air quality. Hot and sunny conditions are expected to cause increasing ground-level ozone concentrations this afternoon. Moderate risk AQHI values are expected throughout the day with the potential of short-term high risk AQHI values in the afternoon.

When air pollution levels are high, everyone should limit time outdoors. Consider reducing or rescheduling outdoor sports, activities and events.

You may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough. If you think you are having a medical emergency, seek immediate medical assistance.

People more likely to be impacted by outdoor air pollution, including people aged 65 and older, pregnant people, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms.

Construction activity in Sarnia picked up last month.City hall issued 68 building permits in June, up from 37 in May, with a total value of over $10.3 million.The largest permit for $1 million was for two new service bays at Progressive Auto Sales on Exmouth Street. A $450,000 permit was also issued for new water service and a meeting room at Hanna Memorial Public School.Last month's permits bring the year to date total to $36.8 million.There were six permits issued in June for single-family homes in Sarnia, bringing the year to date total to 26.
