Wanted Sarnia man arrested after negotiating over one hour

Sarnia police arrested a 36-year-old man on Saturday evening after he locked himself inside of a room at a home in the area of Campbell Street and Whitmore Avenue.

Police said the accused was wanted on a Surety Warrant - Order of Committal.

During the standoff that lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, the man allegedly told officers he had firearms and other weapons but did not make any direct threats.

After negotiations, police said the man peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody.

Police found no firearms inside the house, and no new charges have been laid.
