Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services was called to Mitton Street near Davis Street at around 4 p.m.
The residents and two dogs were out of the home when firefighters arrived and crews extinguished the fire quickly.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
No injuries were reported.
People in southern Huron and Lambton counties are being told to limit their time outside.
