Further development at former SGH site boosts construction totals

Sarnia building permits had a big boost in August.

City hall issued a $16 million permit to Hyde Construction Limited for an apartment building at the former site of Sarnia General Hospital. The hospital, built in 1896 was demolished in 2018.

The four-storey apartment building on Mitton Street North will have 59 units.

A $4 million permit was also issued for demolition of a building on Confederation Line near Upper Canada Drive.

A total of 59 permits valued at just over $24.5 million were issued last month, bringing the year-to-date total to just over $60.1 million.

Four permits were issued in August for single-family homes, for a total of 18 so far this year.
