Two arrested for alleged brutal bat assault and kidnapping

Two individuals have been arrested for an alleged vicious assault involving a baseball bat and the abduction of two victims early Sunday morning.

Sarnia Police were notified of the incident by a concerned resident near Victoria Street and Davis Street.

The witness reported observing someone attacking a victim with a bat, forcibly undressing them, and pushing them into a vehicle at around 8 a.m.

Sarnia police located the suspect vehicle and upon investigation, officers discovered one victim in the back seat and a second victim in the vehicle's trunk.

Authorities immediately arrested the two suspects, Jody Hodgert, 44, of Sarnia, and Gordon Jelavic, 47, also from Sarnia.

Police said investigations revealed that both the accused parties and victims knew each other.

Both victims received necessary medical treatment and did not suffer significant physical injuries.

Hodgert faces charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and suspended driving (Highway Traffic Act).

Gordon Jelavic is charged with kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both accused have been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
