Suspects sought in attempted robbery investigation

Sarnia police are looking for two suspects who allegedly tried to rob someone Wednesday night in Mitton Village.

Police said a man was "accosted" by two other men on Mitton Street at approximately 11:20 p.m. The suspects demanded the victim's phone and money.

Fortunately, the victim was able to run from the area without being injured.

Police described the first suspect as being approximately 5'9" tall, with a skinny build. He wore a navy blue face mask and a grey hoodie with a blue logo across the center chest area.

The second suspect was described as having a skinny build. He wore a grey hoodie and a face mask.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Criminal Investigations Division at 519-344-8861 extension 5300. Tips can also be called in anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 

Meanwhile, police have issued a list of safety tips for when residents are out walking:

- Inform others when and where you are going and check in with them when you reach your destination.

- Have your keys ready upon approaching your parked vehicle.

- Walk on well-lit streets near the curb and away from alleys, particularly if you must walk alone at night.

-When in public, always beware of your surroundings. Be mindful of persons loitering or acting suspiciously.

- If you suspect you are being followed, go to the nearest well-lit place or populated area, and yell if necessary to attract attention.

- When taking public transit alone, avoid waiting or getting off at isolated stations or stops. Arrange for a family member or friend to escort you to and from the station.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
