County holds drop-off event for household hazardous waste

The County of Lambton will host its last Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event of the year on Saturday.

The county works with Clean Harbors Canada Inc. to host a collection day on the last Saturday of each month, from March through to October (with the exceptions of July and August).

The purpose of the event is to allow residents the opportunity to dispose of their potentially dangerous household waste in an environmentally safe way.

"If hazardous products are thrown in with the regular garbage, it can injure sanitation workers and cause long-term environmental problems," read the county's HHW website.

Community members can drop off their hazardous materials on October 28 at Clean Harbours, located at 4090 Telfer Rd. in St. Clair Township. The free event will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Materials that will be accepted include oven cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals, paints, and aerosols. A full list of acceptable items can be found on the county's website.
