Two suspects arrested in convenience store robberies

Sarnia police have arrested two individuals in connection with two separate armed robberies that happened on Monday.

The first incident took place at around 5 a.m. at a convenience store on Exmouth Street near Capel Street.

It's alleged the store clerk approached a suspect who attempted to leave the store with several unpaid items.

Police said the suspect then threatened to assault the clerk, while showing a knife attached to his belt, and ran away on foot. They were apprehended just a few blocks away minutes later.

Judson Leslie Brown, 35, of Sarnia faces the following charges:

- Robbery

- Uttering threats to cause death

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2)

- Carrying a concealed weapon

- Breach of probation

The second robbery occurred around 9 p.m. Monday.

Police said a suspect armed with a knife entered a convenience store on Indian Road near Confederation Street.

It's alleged the suspect pushed the clerk out of the way and stole several items from behind the store counter before taking off.

Police said the suspect was identified and arrested early Tuesday morning.

Andrew Joseph Surridge, 40, of Sarnia faces the following charges:

- Robbery

- Assault with a weapon

- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

- Possession of property obtained by crime

- Possession of a prohibited device

Both suspects were being held for a bail hearing.
