Driver charged after traffic light struck at Sarnia intersection

Sarnia police have charged a 26-year-old man from Scarborough with careless driving after a crash in the city's north end Friday morning.

The collision, at Michigan Avenue and Colborne Road, was reported just after 7:30 a.m.

Police said a traffic pole was struck by a transport truck and the vehicle continued travelling northbound on Colborne Road.

Officers stopped the vehicle at Kemsley Drive and Rex Street and charged the driver under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police expected the northbound lanes, just north of Michigan and Colborne, to be closed for most of the day, until approximately 4 p.m., while Bluewater Power crews worked to replace the traffic pole.
