Sigh of relief as Exmouth Street reopens

Chaotic traffic on London Road may ease now that road closure barricades have been removed from Exmouth Street.

Exmouth Street between Lambton Mall Road and Pontiac Drive in Sarnia reopened to traffic Monday night.

The roadway was closed to traffic in late August for a reconstruction project associated with the Rapids Parkway extension.

City staff previously said the work included the installation of proper traffic signals, underground pipe replacement, and lowering the elevation of the roadway.

Work on Exmouth Street was part of the Rapids Parkway extension project, which also includes the installation of a roundabout at Quinn Drive.

City of Sarnia Construction Manager Robert Williams previously said the roundabout may not be completed until late November.

The final phase of the Rapids Parkway extension project is expected to take place in 2024.
