Arson charge laid following Richard Street fire

Sarnia police have laid criminal charges in relation to a fire on Richard Street on Monday.

Police said a fence was set on fire and flames spread to the adjacent residence, damaging the home.

A 48-year-old man was initially arrested on outstanding warrants and a subsequent investigation led to additional charges.

Police said the man has since been charged with arson, mischief over $5,000, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The man was held in custody overnight and was scheduled for a bail hearing Tuesday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
