Resident, cat escape Devine St. fire

A person and their cat were able to safely escape from a house fire Thursday morning on Devine Street, near Indian Road.

Sarnia Fire Public Education Officer Mike Otis said emergency crews were called just after 6 a.m., and were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby homes.

He said the cause was determined to be accidental in nature, and damage is estimated to be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The roadway was closed as part of the investigation but has since reopened.
