New activities added to Christmas in the Village

The Village of Point Edward is getting into the holiday spirit with the 12th annual Christmas in the Village.

The free family-friendly event will be held on Saturday, December 2, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Special Events Coordinator Shelley Archer said many of their usual activities will return including horse and buggy rides, smores and a campfire at Manley's, face painting, Christmas caroling, and hot chocolate at the fire hall.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be stationed at Suzie's Ice Creamporium, eager to meet local children.

Archer said they have added a children's maze this year on Michigan Avenue, near the old Balmoral. Glitter tattoos will also be available for kids at the Point Edward Early Learning Centre, where visitors can also vote on their favourite gingerbread creation.

New for the adults this year is a barista challenge, which officially kicked off on November 24. Archer said bar baristas at Los Puntos Cantina, Marcin Bowl, and Point Brewing were challenged with creating a festive drink for patrons to vote on.

"We're encouraging people to go to all three of those [establishments], try out their cocktail, and vote on the best," said Archer.  The winner will host a band called "South End Fusion" on December 2 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Christmas in the Village returned last year for the first time since the pandemic. Archer said it went really well and they saw roughly 250 people go through Santa's tent.

Albert's Fries will again host a food drive and bake sale in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd. Patrons can trade a non-perishable food item for a drink, hot dog, or small fry, or they can purchase items with cash.

The Point Edward Optimist Hall will also have free sandwiches and juice available for lunch.
