Sarnia Sting add goaltending depth with signing

The Sarnia Sting have signed goalie Evan Maillet to an Ontario Hockey League Scholarship and Development Agreement.

The Sting previously acquired the 17-year-old's rights in a trade with Kitchener earlier in the season. A conditional 12th round draft pick in 2026 went to the Rangers.

The 6'0", 170 pound Mississauga native was drafted by Kitchener in the 13th round (252nd overall) of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection after winning an OHL Cup with the Mississauga Senators.

He spent 2022-23 with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens U18 AAA program, posting an impressive .928 save percentage through 37 games along with a goals against average of 1.79.

So far this season with the Toronto Patriots of the OJHL, Maillet owns a record of 3-5-1 with a 3.38 goals-against average and .916 save percentage through 11 games.

Sting General Manager Dylan Seca is happy to welcome Maillet to the organization.

"Evan is an athletic and competitive goalie," said Seca. "He’s been a part of championship teams in the past couple of years. He’s a player who knows what it takes to win. He also helps our goaltending depth, for the upcoming season and beyond. We welcome Evan and the Maillet family to Sting Nation!"

The Sting return to the ice on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Owen Sound.

They host the Oshawa Generals on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

You can hear every game on 103.9FM and 1070AM CHOK.
