Sting edge Colts in wild Wednesday win

Jacob LeBlanc scored twice, including the game-winner, as the Sarnia Sting (11-17-0) edged the visiting Barrie Colts (11-14-0) 7-6 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena Wednesday night.

Sarnia Sting goalie Nick Surzycia stopped 19 of 25 shots before giving up the net to Corunna native Logan Phillips, who turned away all 10 shots he faced.

"I grew up idolizing a lot of the Sting goalies actually so just being able to get in some action is unreal," said Phillips during the Sting postgame news conference.

He said he was just trying to stay focused on the task at hand.

"I was just trying to focus on the next shot," he said. "Keep getting save after save, and I knew once we had the lead that the boys had the momentum and if I was just doing my job, taking it one shot at a time, we were hopefully going to get the two points."

Sandis Vilmanis, Dennis Lominac, Mitch Young and Cooper Way also scored for Sarnia.

Left-winger Tyson Doucette had a goal and an assist in the win.

"It was a lot of ups and downs, we just had to stay in it," said Doucette. "When we go down, we just have to stay positive and just work back at it. Once we got those couple goals, it really got the energy up on the bench and I think that motivated us to get that win."

The Sting are off until Saturday when they visit the Owen Sound Attack. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. You can catch all the action live on CHOK (103.9FM/1070AM).
