'Cram a Cruiser' events to support local organizations

A couple of donation drives will be held in Sarnia this weekend to support the Inn of the Good Shepherd and the Sarnia & District Humane Society.

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) will hold the 11th annual Cram a Cruiser Toy Drive, in partnership with the Inn, on Saturday, December 9 at Lambton Mall.

A cruiser will be parked in front of Toys R Us from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

"We recognize that 2023 has been an exceptionally difficult year for many and we want to continue to help make a difference in our community," read an SPS social media post. "This year, the Inn of the Good Shepherd has seen a 25 [per cent] increase in families accessing the food bank. In addition, nearly 500 children have yet to be sponsored to receive a gift and we hope to make a difference and provide assistance to these families this Christmas."

Meanwhile, a similar event will also be held at Ren's Pets on December 9 to support some furry friends at the humane society.

Ren's Pets, SPS, and The Paint Cat have partnered for the "Christmas Paws Cram a Cruiser" event from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The store is located on Exmouth Street, near the intersection of Lambton Mall Road.

The humane society has a list of items they are requesting on its website

Some of the current items the organization is asking for include non-clumping cat litter, new or unused small cat beds, towels and small fleece blankets, cleaning supplies, and horse bedding pellets.

Gift cards to local businesses or Amazon.ca will also be accepted.
