Suspect arrested following Point Edward thefts

A 35-year-old Sarnia man has been charged following thefts in Point Edward.

Lambton OPP said it was contacted on December 7 about a theft at a business on Kendall Street.

Upon further investigation, officers determined a second business had been broken into in the area.

OPP said a suspect was identified through video surveillance and taken into custody soon after.

Police said the individual was charged with two counts of break and enter and two counts of theft under $5,000.

The accused was remanded in custody following a bail hearing.

Lambton OPP is using the incident to ask residents who have external video surveillance equipment, or video doorbells, to register their address with the CAMSAFE program.

Police said there is no obligation to provide video, and you can remove yourself from the program at any time. The program was designed to have a database of locations where surveillance equipment and video doorbells exist, to help reduce the time officers spend canvassing an area following a crime.
