UPDATE: Multiple crashes reported on Hwy. 40

A couple of collisions in the area of Highway 40 and Confederation Line caused heavy traffic delays Thursday evening.

Lambton OPP closed the busy intersection shortly before 4:30 p.m. and asked motorists to avoid the area.

In an emailed response to Sarnia News Today, Media Relations Officer Cst. Jamie Bydeley said the initial collision caused related traffic issues, which may have contributed to a second collision.

The OPP reported the road reopened just before 5:20 p.m.

Bydeley said it's believed no injuries were reported.

*On Friday, OPP said a 55-year-old from Petrolia was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with failing to stop for an amber light.
