Tough times evident in recent vehicle, cash draw

The fourth annual Noelle's Gift to Children Vehicle and Cash Draw did not fare as well compared to previous years but organizers are still grateful to those who purchased tickets.

Nicole Paquette said the fundraiser did not sell out this year like it had in previous years.

"With the economy the way it is, everybody's struggling, so it's kind of to be expected," she said. "We actually only raised about $15,000 this year and normally we're at about $75,000."

Nevertheless, funds raised will support local students through initiatives such as school student nutrition programs.

A draw was held on December 29, 2023. The grand prize winner of a 2023 Lincoln Corsair was Barry Bentley.

Paquette said he stopped by Finch Ford Lincoln earlier this week.

"They were very grateful," said Paquette. "They went through some hardships the last couple of years and this is just, the stars aligning for them, is what they said."

The first prize winner of $5,000 was Cathy Biesser.

"We are very grateful for everybody who did support our event, we are looking at doing it once again next year," Paquette said.

Due to prize amounts this year, Paquette said the draw had to be licensed through the province, which cost more, so they may reevaluate some things for next year.

Noelle's Gift to Children was established in 2013 in memory of Noelle Paquette who was a local teacher.
