Driver charged after crash causes power outage

A 25-year-old man from Scarborough has been charged with careless driving after a collision briefly knocked out power to a portion of Sherwood Village Sunday night.

Sarnia police said a single-vehicle collision was reported at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Maplestone Avenue.

City police said a Honda Civic struck a hydro transformer.

The incident forced Bluewater Power to temporarily interrupt power to sections of Barrington Crescent, Oslo Crescent, Frost Court, Frost Avenue, Hannah Crescent, and Maplestone Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the driver faces a fine of $490 and six demerit points upon conviction.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
