The Sarnia Golf & Curling Club's 93rd Imperial Bonspiel will be held this weekend but for the first time, the event is open to both men and women.
Thirty-two teams from across Ontario and Michigan are expected to take part in the competition, with a total of 128 players.
Head Golf Professional and Curling Draw Master Jamie Parkinson said the decision to have an open event was something the committee had discussed for years.
"We have men's teams, we have mixed teams, we have some all women's teams competing this year," he said. "We're really excited about the change and looking forward to a great competition."
The Imperial Bonspiel will begin Friday evening with draws scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Parkinson said each draw will see 16 teams compete.
Four draws will follow on Saturday at 9:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:45 p.m., and 4 p.m.
On Sunday, two draws will be held at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., with finals set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
Past champions will also compete for the chance of winning this year's title.
Parkinson said spectators are welcome to attend. The golf and curling club is located on Errol Road West, near Christina Street North.
The annual event returned in 2023 following a brief hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
