Sawed-off shotgun seized in ongoing drug investigation

Charges have been laid after Sarnia police searched a residence and seized items such as a loaded sawed-off shotgun and a significant quantity of fentanyl.

Members of the Emergency Response Team and the Vice Unit searched a residence on Vimy Crescent, near Wellington Street, on January 23, shortly after 6 p.m.

Following a search, officers seized a loaded sawed-off single-barrel shotgun, 76.30 grams of fentanyl, 2.69 grams of cocaine, drug packaging material, scales, and $120 in cash. Police told Sarnia News Today that the street value of the drugs seized was $11,835.

Three people found inside of the home were arrested. City police identified them as Angelique Zombori and Laura Chesney of Sarnia, and Michel Alain of London.

Police said charges laid include possession of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a loaded prohibited firearm with ammunition.

Charges against the accused have not been proven in court.

All three remain in police custody following a bail hearing, as the investigation continues.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
