Driver in critical condition after single vehicle collision

Sarnia Police say a driver was taken to hospital in critical condition after a single vehicle collision Saturday afternoon.

Emergency services responded to the intersection of Modeland and Blackwell Roads around 1:30 p.m.

According to police, as the vehicle slowly rounded the corner, it failed to complete the turn, crossing over both lanes of traffic and leaving the road, coming to a rest in the ditch.

Emergency first aid was provided to the 72 year-old male driver, who was the lone occupant. Although there was minimal damage to the vehicle, the driver was taken to Bluewater Health in critical condition.

The road was closed for several hours as the Sarnia Police Traffic Unit conducted the investigation.

Police say while the investigation will continue, based on information received thus far, the collision is consistent with a medical episode and no further info is likely to be released.
