No injuries in Pinery Provincial Park fire

A building at Pinery Provincial Park in Grand Bend has been destroyed in a fire Thursday afternoon.

Lambton Shores Fire Chief James Marshall said at around 1 p.m. firefighters received the 9-1-1 call that a shed was on fire.

He said it was breached out of the front of the building and the roof.

"The building was half consumed when we arrived," said Marshall. "It has gotten into the roofline of the building so, the building will be a loss."

It's estimated the damage is valued at around $300,000 and as of Thursday afternoon the cause of the fire had not been determined.

Marshall doesn't believe anyone was inside the building at the time of the blaze.

"(Employees) just happened to catch this out of the corner of their eye and they certainly weren't expecting that this was going to be how they would spend their day here at the Pinery," he said.

Marshall said at this time firefighters will not be contacting the Ontario Fire Marshal's office.

"We will be looking into the cause and origin with our own fire investigators," he said.

Marshall believes there is an important takeaway from this incident.

"This is a great example that fires happen at any time. Have a plan, make sure you have working smoke and CO alarms," he said.
