New Point Edward apartment building takes shape quickly

A new apartment tower on Venetian Boulevard in Point Edward has taken shape in fewer than five months.

Venetian Harbour Developments Inc. President Nick Salomone expects construction to be complete by the end of this year, or in early 2025, with occupancy starting in February. "Things are going really well," said Salomone. "We just recently got to the final floor, which is the sixth floor. So, the roof is on the building and there's currently work on the interior, partitioning the units etc. So things are moving along real quick."

He said there are beautiful views of Bridgeview Marina and Blue Water Bridge from the building.

"We're going to have 52 residential units," Salomone said. "It's a combination of two bedrooms/two baths, two bedrooms/den/two baths, and a couple of three bedrooms/two baths. The building is going to have an amenity area, barbecue grilling station and some benches overlooking the marina. The interior of the building will have an exercise room and a common room for gatherings."

Salomone said construction has been smooth thanks to the mild winter, but also because a lot of the supply chain issues experienced during COVID have subsided.

"We had to do some ground work which started in September and then once we started erecting the building in late November, it went up fairly quickly," he said.

Salomone said they've had an overwhelming response from people already in the Point Edward area, with a majority of interest from retirees and empty nesters.

"The rents really haven't been set, just because we're not really sure what the market conditions are going to be this fall, but I can safely say we'll probably have rents starting in the $2,300 a month, plus utilities, range," he said.

Lease offers will be made on a first come, first served basis.
