Low-cost rabies vaccination clinics planned

Six low-cost rabies vaccination clinics have been scheduled across Sarnia-Lambton.

The clinics, to be held in April and May, are open to all cats and dogs, three months of age and older.

Lambton Public Health said the animals must be restrained, in good health and not vaccinated against rabies within the past year.

Supervisor of Health Protection Lori Lucas said the cost per animal is $30 and is only payable in cash.

“These clinics offer an affordable way to add an additional layer of protection not just for the animals, but for humans as well,” said Lucas. “Vaccinating pets is one of the most effective ways to prevent the rabies disease from spreading.”

The first clinics are planned Saturday April 6, at the Rutherford Public Works Garage [4590 Lambton Line] from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the Dawn Euphemia Community Centre [6213 Mill Street in Florence] from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Clinics are also planned in Cairo, Alvinston, Enniskillen and Oil Springs.

Additional low-cost veterinary care options are available throughout the year through the Sarnia and District Humane Society.

Owners of dogs and cats are required by law to vaccinate their pets against rabies.
