Prescribed opioids taken in Devine St. robbery

Sarnia police are investigating a robbery at an apartment building in the city's south end that left a 23-year-old woman "visibly shaken."

City police said the startling incident occurred at a Devine Street apartment, located between East Street South and Indian Road South, on April 3 at 6:40 p.m.

A male suspect knocked on the door of an apartment unit and claimed he needed help due to an emergency.

When the 23-year-old victim answered the door, police said the suspect allegedly held a knife to the occupant’s stomach and demanded her prescribed opioids, which she had for a medical condition.

"She provided a quantity of her medication and the suspect fled on foot," police said in a media release.

No injuries were reported.

Police describe the suspect as being a white man, approximately 5’11” in height, with a slim build, and has medium-length brown hair. He wore a black jacket and dark boots.

Anyone with information or security footage from the area is asked to review it and contact the Sarnia Police Service at (519) 344-8861.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at (519) 332-8477 or online.
