Significant rain and thunderstorms rolling into Southern Ontario

Residents of Southwestern Ontario should prepare for a dramatic weather shift over the next few days.

A special weather statement is in effect for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, London-Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, and Huron-Perth Counties as of Wednesday night, lasting until Saturday morning.

Environment Canada is warning of an onslaught of rain, thunderstorms, and powerful wind gusts.

Areas could see between 25 and 45 millimetres of rainfall, with the heaviest rains expected to happen during thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon and evening.

On Friday night, the rain will be joined by wind gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour and could have some snow mixed in.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads," the weather agency said, adding that low-lying areas could also see flooding.
