Local photographer to embark on an Arctic expedition

A northern adventure is in the works for a local photographer.

Shaun Antle, professionally known as Oh Me Nerves Photography, will embark on a two week Arctic Expedition in November to capture the unique essence of the northern landscape and wildlife, including polar bears and caribou.

He said he's also in discussions with Canadian Geographic, galleries across Ontario, and local schools where he hopes to showcase his photos and share his passion for nature.

"Really what I want is the educational piece of an expedition like this," said Antle. "Just show people places they may not see or go to and bring education back, for myself and for others. Just learning about the arctic ecosystems and climate change, everything that's happening and how things are affected."

Antle said the community support has been great.

"So far 12 businesses have stepped and sponsored me for the trip," he said.

Antle recently used his camera skills to capture photos while at Erieau Beach of the solar eclipse, receiving recognition from Canadian Geographic.

He said it ranks among the top three experiences of his life, second to marrying his wife and the birth of his children.

"Just absolutely speechless," said Antle. "Come time of the actual totality, my wife videoed the kids and the kids were just losing their minds. I'm a professional photographer I've been shooting for 25 years, and it doesn't matter how much you practice or how much you plan it in your head, when that moon crosses that sun, it's just otherworldly."

You can purchase your own copy of Antle's solar eclipse photos, or sponsor his expedition through his website Oh Me Nerves Photography.

Antle was recently recognized by Canadian Geographic for his photo of a Great Blue Heron in Lake Chipican at Canatara Park.
