Sarnia Sting fans are invited to get a firsthand look at some of the club's best prospects this weekend.
The team is holding its development camp Friday and Saturday, for players selected in the recent 2024 OHL Priority Selection.
On Friday, players will report for registration and a full day of private team activities including fitness testing, team building, and breakout sessions.
Weather permitting, there will be some outdoor drills.
General Manager Dylan Seca is excited for the weekend.
"It's always something we look forward to," said Seca. "Really we just treat this as an orientation, an opportunity to just see everybody and knock off a bit of nerves more than anything. We're very excited to see (second overall pick) Alessandro Di Iorio and some of the other picks that are coming in alongside him."
Seca said the prospects will be introduced to a strong culture the team has worked hard to establish.
"If anything, it's just a chance for the players to send a message to our staff that they're here, and committed and want to work," he said. "From our side, we've been establishing a culture of family, work ethic and commitment. We want to focus on the habits that the good teams do, or the great teams do, or the winning teams do. We're going to set the tone for what those habits look like from our perspective and make sure they leave here understanding what those are. Their challenge is to go and work all summer long and be back for main camp, and show they're ready to make the hockey club."
Seca said it's obviously early, and no one will make the team or lose a roster spot based on this weekend.
On Saturday, fans will have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the prospects as the Sting will hold a pair of on-ice sessions at Pat Stapleton Arena between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The Honeypot Express will also be on-site, giving fans the chance to secure team merchandise for the summer.
There will be camp rosters available at the rink, and they'll be released online leading into Saturday’s on-ice activities.
Main camp will take place in late August, and further details have yet to be released.
