Career fair looks to fill early years positions

A career fair will be held in Sarnia in an effort to fill several local positions in the early years sector.

The job expo will be held on Tuesday, May 7 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Sarnia Legion, located on Front Street North.

Children's Education Services Regional Manager for the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario Heather Forbes said attendees should bring resumes, cover letters, and possibly a list of questions for potential employers.

Forbes said full-time and part-time job opportunities are available across Sarnia-Lambton. Positions include early childhood educators, educator assistants, support staff, and licensed home childcare positions.

"We have rooms within our childcare centres right now that are closed due to the lack of high-quality staff. This event will help hopefully close some of that and get children off of our waitlist within Sarnia-Lambton," she said.

Forbes said they're looking for high-quality staff.

"We would like to see the education piece connected to them," Forbes said. "So this is a great time for our graduates that are just coming out of Lambton College or any other colleges within Ontario that maybe live in the area."

Employment Ontario partners will be at the legion to provide employment-related supports and discuss possible free training opportunities.

The career fair is a drop-in event and pre-registration is not required.

Those who are unable to attend the event in person but would like to participate can fill out an online inquiry form to receive more details about available positions.
