Imperial jobs moving to U.S. in consolidation

Changes are happening at Imperial following a strategic evaluation of its technology and lab operations in Calgary and Sarnia.

The company said it's "leveraging its relationship with ExxonMobil to increase production while lowering costs and improving efficiencies."

Public and Government Affairs Manager Kristina Zimmer said as a result, Imperial plans to relocate some of its technology and lab operations work to Houston, Texas over the next few years.

"As a result of this evaluation, the majority of technology and engineering activities supported by the Sarnia Technology Applications and Research Center will be relocated to a new consolidated research hub in Houston operated by ExxonMobil. Less than 100 employees are expected to be impacted by these changes," read a statement from Imperial.  "These changes will continue to expand our capabilities and approach to research and technology development."

The statement goes on to say Imperial’s commitment to research and technology has not changed, and the company will continue to invest in industry-leading innovation to enhance environmental performance, production efficiency and product quality.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the changes will be conducted in phases and will be fully enacted by 2028.
