Former Petrolia councillor remembered

The Town of Petrolia is mourning the loss of a former councillor.

Flags were lowered to half-mast on Friday, May 10, in memory of Don Welten.

Welten, who died May 9 at the age of 81, was a member of the town's Committee of Adjustment and Property Standards group for many years.

Petrolia Mayor Brad Loosley said Welten served on council for one term, from 2018 to 2022.

“It is with deep sadness that we have received this news today, on behalf of council and staff, we share our sincere condolences to Mr. Welten’s family and friends, and to our community as we mourn this loss together,” Loosley said.

Welten held many leadership roles with New Life Assembly Church.

Loosley said he was also known for his expertise in building and renovating, his sense of humour, and skills as a chief building official in Bosanquet Township during his career.

"Known for his kindness, considerate nature and dedication to his community, Mr. Welten will be missed," Loosley added.

Arrangements for Welten have been entrusted to Needham Jay Funeral Home.
