Car crashes in Sarnia Bay

Sarnia police are investigating after a car became submerged in the Sarnia Bay Sunday afternoon.

In a social media post police said the driver accidentally engaged the gas pedal causing the vehicle to drive through the guardrail and into the St. Clair River just after 1 p.m.

Police also said that two bystanders jumped into the water to help extricate the driver and passenger of the vehicle.

They were then helped to shore by other residents.

No injuries were reported and city works were on the scene to repair the rail.

The investigation is ongoing but police said they do not anticipate any charges.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue, Point Edward Fire and Rescue and Lambton EMS also responded.
