Sarnia council has endorsed a proposed master plan for Clearwater Arena in principle.
Staff have been directed to advance the multi-year implementation plan through the annual capital budgeting process.
The vision improves accessibility, flow, and access to the building.
The existing facility requires up to $25 million in upgrades and the phased approach is estimated to take between eight and ten years to complete.
Adding an optional third ice pad on the property, and integrating it into the existing facility in the future, has been estimated to cost up to $35 million.
The rink, near the corner of Wellington Street and Finch Drive in Sarnia, was originally built in 1975, and expanded into a double ice pad in 1989.

Council also approved $20,000 in architectural design fees to complete a park-wide plan with the community.
It will map out construction cost estimates and a recommended asset re-investment phasing plan.

Development charges will be collected up-front again in the city, as they were previously.
Council endorsed a staff recommendation to amend the city's bylaw to eliminate a phased-in approach and include studies and eligible capital cost in accordance with Bill 185, the Cutting Red Tape to Build More Homes Act, 2024.

A maximum of six standard size chickens may soon be allowed in urban areas of the city.

The project includes the replacement of both wastewater pumps, and mechanical and electrical upgrades to support the new higher capacity pumps.
The upgrades will increase the wastewater pumping capacity to the site, at the corner of Mayfair Road and Tweedsmuir Avenue, by 50 per cent.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to mitigate the risk of sewer backups and associated flooding in the Coronation Park area.

Councillor Anne Marie Gillis, who spoke on behalf of the UNDRIP [United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples] Working Group, said the designs and theme for the proposed mural align with the land acknowledgement read at the beginning of each council meeting.
One bid, amounting to nearly $8,500, was received for the job from Seventh Rayn Design Co.
