'Shred-it' fundraiser planned in Sarnia Saturday

The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) is hosting a "shred-it" event in the Canadian Tire parking lot at Lambton Mall on Saturday, June 15.

The purpose of the annual event is to help residents avoid identity theft.

"With identity theft and other misuse of people's personal information on the rise, it's more important than ever that we safeguard and/or securely dispose of our personal documents," SPS said in a social media post.

The event is being held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Only personal documents will be collected, not business materials or magazines.

Donations will be collected for the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
