Drugs, cash and handgun seized during retail theft investigation

A retail theft investigation has led to the seizure of illegal drugs, cash and a handgun in central Sarnia.

Members of the Sarnia Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) executed two search warrants Friday morning.

Police said at around 7:30 a.m. officers searched two homes, one on Elgin Street and the other on Durand Street for a theft complaint from a local retailer for a series of high value retail thefts.

The search warrants were executed to recover the stolen property and other evidence.

Police said when they were executing the search warrant at the Durand street home they located a Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun, $15,120 in cash, four grams of fentanyl, 23 grams of methamphetamine and four grams of cocaine.

When inside the home police located a 27 year-old man who was out on release for drug trafficking offences in Niagara.

Police said those conditions included a requirement to be at his home in St. Catharines from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and not to possess any firearms.

He allegedly attempted to give police a fake name.

The accused is facing drug and firearm related charges.

Additionally, charges have been laid against a 50 year-old and 40 year-old for the retail thefts.

The 40-year-old is wanted by Sarnia police.
