Ministry of Labour investigating safety concerns at Point Edward job site

Safety concerns at a major road reconstruction project in Point Edward are being investigated.

In an email to Sarnia News Today, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development [MLITSD] said it was notified of a construction site safety concern on Wednesday, June 12.

Spokesperson Anuradha Dhar confirmed a ministry inspector attended the site.

"Three orders were issued to the constructor, McNally Excavating Ltd," Dhar said. "The ministry’s investigation is ongoing. As such, no further information can be provided at this time."

Witnesses said work at the site was halted.

The ministry was asked further questions, including if anyone was injured and what the specific concerns were, but no response was given.

McNally Excavating Ltd. was awarded the $6 million project to rebuild St. Clair and Lite Streets, between Front Street and Michigan Avenue.
