Sarnia Saints Rugby 'Playing It Forward'

It's considered a day of community, rugby and giving back.

It's the 14th annual Sarnia Saints Rugby 'Playing It Forward'.

Spokesperson Brendan Groombridge said the club tradition is raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society of Sarnia-Lambton this year.

"Over the years we've supported many things from Pathway's, St. Clair Child and Youth, Point Edward Optimists the list goes on," he said. "It's our way of giving back to the community, tying to make some philanthropic efforts to support our community."

Groombridge said the event on Saturday features three games.

"The women kick off the day at 12:30 p.m., at Norm Perry Park on the north pitch, the grass field," said Groombridge. "They play a side from Grimsby and then our men play at 2 p.m. and 3:30 against a London club, who actually partnered with us for this."

Admission is free, however donations are encouraged.

Groombridge said there's an online auction through www.shackbid.com. That closes Friday night.

Among the items up for bid are limited edition jerseys, golf package and a three course meal for six presented by Personal Touch Catering.
