UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms possible

Environment Canada meteorologists were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, pea to dime size hail and heavy rain Wednesday afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm warning was posted for north and east Lambton County just after 1:30 p.m.

"Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall," the advisory read.

The warning for north and east Lambton County was lifted just after 2:30 p.m.

Just before 2 p.m. a tornado warning was posted for Western Middlesex County.

"Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible. This is a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation," the advisory read.

"A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located eight kilometres northwest of Appin, moving east at 55 km/h."

At 2:12 p.m. the tornado alert was removed and replaced with a severe thunderstorm warning in Western Middlesex County.

All warnings were lifted by late afternoon.

The weather agency warned that lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

"Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors," Environment Canada said.
