It's welcome news for residents looking to beat the heat this summer.
After being delayed by about a week, the splash pad at Tecumseh Park is opening for the season on Wednesday, June 26.
The facility, on Russell Street South, near Ontario Street, will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. until September 6.
There's no admission fee.
City of Sarnia Communications Manager Steve Henschel said there were some concerns surrounding the water quality at the park, but those issues have since been resolved.
"We annually work with Lambton Public Health, they're required to sign off on it," said Henschel. "It's like a public pool in that it recycles the water. Obviously, we have to treat the water to keep it from having any bacterial contaminants in it and stuff like that. We were on a slightly more condensed testing timeline this year. With the pathway construction wrapping up, we kind of had a narrow window to get the splash pad set up and tested."
Henschel further specified that when it came time to test, there were some discrepancies between the city, the contractor, and the health unit.
"The contractor and the staff-administered tests were showing as positive results, and the Lambton Public Health results were showing that the water quality wasn't so good," he said. "We brought everybody together, over the last couple of days, reviewed those results and realized there was a bit of a difference in the way it was being tested across all three."
Henschel said once they lined up the water testing to be consistent, they were able to get the green light across the board.
If there are future concerns, the water is tested daily as a precaution.
He said they've done some upgrades at Tecumseh Park over the past few years in order to enhance the user experience.
"We've done a ton of investments at Tecumseh Park," said Henschel. "This spring, we installed the pathway connections which makes the splash pad and accessible playground more accessible. People will also notice that there's been some repairs to the playground surface at Tecumseh Park."
Meanwhile, the Tecumseh Pool at the Cox Youth Centre, will officially be open as of Saturday, June 29.
The cost is $2 per person for open swims, $2 per person for Aquafit classes, $6 for families of three or more, and $45 for swimming lessons.
A full schedule for Tecumseh Pool, up until August 25, can be found on the YMCA's Facebook page.
