Popular Sarnia Legion fundraiser 'catching' on

The latest Catch the Ace Lottery fundraiser at the Sarnia Legion is picking up momentum.

The jackpot is now up to $80,000.

Branch 62 First Vice President Les Jones said the lottery slowed down a bit because of the pandemic, but it's catching on again.

He said  they're down to their last 10 cards for the draw on Thursday, June 27.

"Each week there's a winner," said Jones. "So, 50 per cent of the ticket sales go to Legion Lottery Fund, 20 per cent goes to the weekly winner and then that weekly winner gets the opportunity to select an envelope and look for the Ace of Spades. For example last week, the weekly winner took home $6,980."

Jones said the majority of the money raised will go towards supporting local charities. He said funds will also help towards improvements at the Front Street Legion.

"So our building is old, it was built around 1987 and is definitely showing its age," he said. "We've got a lot of facade work to do, so we're raising money to try to improve that."

Jones said tickets are $10 each or three for $20 and available from noon until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the day of the draw.

You don't have to be present to win and can watch the weekly draw live on Facebook at 7:30 p.m.
