Proposed Forest parkette project denied grant funding

Plans to revitalize the underutilized downtown Forest parkette are being put on hold for now.

The Municipality of Lambton Shores was recently notified that it was unsuccessful in receiving funding through the My Main Street Community Activator Grant.

In March, staff were directed to apply for grant funding, which offered up to $250,000 to support community projects in southern Ontario.

Proposed plans previously presented to council included mixed-use seating, gardens and trees, and a stage for local performers. Each concept cost was upwards of $217,000.

Mayor Doug Cook previously said if the municipality's My Main Street Grant application was unsuccessful, plans for the revitalization project would be held for future consideration.

Manager of Licensing and Communications Alex Boughen said while no other grant applications are currently pending for this project, the municipality will continue to look for new funding opportunities.
