Several events organized to celebrate Canada Day

The Town of Petrolia has planned a full day of events on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day, beginning at 7 a.m.

The Kids Fishing Derby will be held at Bridgeview Park until 10 a.m. Kids are asked to bring their own fishing gear.

Director of Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Julie Bullock said various activities will be held throughout the day in the downtown area, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 216, the Petrolia YMCA, and Greenwood Park.

"This year, we're doing a downtown scavenger hunt, so you're going to go and walk through the downtown core, looking for different things in the business windows," she said. "There's free Aquafit and open swim, there's a pancake breakfast, there's a couple of different baseball games, and then of course our bed races, and our Rock the Park event."

The bed races were reintroduced in 2017, where teams essentially race two beds on four wheels.

Festivities will culminate with fireworks at Greenwood Park at dusk. Free shuttle services will be available.

Details about the shuttle schedule and event details can be found on the Town of Petrolia's website.
