Police charge man with sexual offences against child, worry there are more victims

The Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service has laid charges against a man from the York Region, for multiple sexual offences against a young person.

But investigators, in the criminal investigation division, worry there may be more victims.

An investigation was launched on June 20, which led to the arrest of 20-year-old Shubham Sahota of Vaughan in the Greater Toronto Area.

"It should be noted that Sahota has been known to use false names when interacting with victims over social media platforms," Strathroy police said in a Facebook post about the arrest.

York Region Police (YRP) reported on June 17 that Sahota had been charged with sexual interference, luring a child, invitation to sexual touching, arrangement – sexual offence against a child, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

YRP alleged Sahota posed as a 16-year-old and started communicating with a 12-year-old victim back in April.

"The suspect sent sexually explicit photos to the victim and arranged a meeting for the purpose of committing a sexual act," YRP said. "On May 7, 2024 the suspect sent a rideshare to pick up the victim and bring them to his house where they engaged in a sexual act."

Investigators, in both Strathroy and at YRP, are concerned there may be more victims who've yet to contact police and encourage them to come forward.

Anyone with information about the investigation, or who would like to speak to police about these potential crimes, is asked to call Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service at 519-245-1250.
