Wanted Sarnia man charged with drug trafficking

A Sarnia man, wanted for theft and violating his probation, is now facing drug trafficking and weapon charges.

A city police officer spotted the suspect on July 3 at around 3:45 p.m., in the area of Exmouth Street and East Street.

He was arrested, and a search allegedly revealed 61 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 135 grams of various coloured fentanyl, drug paraphernalia indicative of trafficking, and a black and silver folding knife.

Police said the estimated street value of the drugs is approximately $23,500.

Rheal Galipeau, 35, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, and failing to comply with a probation order by having the folding knife.

He was held for bail.

In a media release, Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis commented on Wednesday's arrest.

"The community impact of these street drugs can be increasingly seen on a daily basis," said Davis. "Fentanyl and methamphetamine are significant sources of both property and violent crime in our city. This was an excellent proactive arrest by an observant officer, resulting in the removal of these drugs from our streets."

Police said anyone with knowledge of drug trafficking or other crimes in the community are asked to contact Sarnia police at 519-344-8861.

Information can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 519-332-TIPS (8477) or online at www.p3tips.com.
