New York driver charged with impaired at Blue Water Bridge

A 38-year-old from Hicksville, New York has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs after being stopped at the Blue Water Bridge.

Lambton OPP were called to the international span just after 8:20 p.m. on Monday, July 8.

Police said upon speaking with a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer, it was suspected the driver of the motor vehicle had consumed drugs.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Lambton OPP Petrolia detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, the driver also received a 90-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court on August 22.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
