SCRCA warns of elevated water levels

Thunderstorms and heavy rain Monday have prompted an alert from the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority.

Forecasts predict rainfall amounts of 15 to 50 millimetres across the watershed over the next 24 hours, and the authority said due to the potential intensity of the storms, water levels are expected to rise rapidly producing localized runoff.

The Watershed Conditions Statement said water levels are anticipated to be elevated from the rainfall with the potential for minor flooding into natural floodplain areas, parks and fields, however, major flooding is not anticipated.

We're reminded that high amounts of rainfall in a short period of time can lead to pooling on roads and flash flooding.

Residents, children and pets are urged to stay aware from watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water.
