Police investigate theft of historic George Street School Bell

The Sarnia Police Service is hoping to recover a large, historic bell that was stolen in the city's downtown core.

The George Street School Bell had been on display for years on the grounds of the Lochiel-Kiwanis Centre at 180 College Avenue, N.

Police said the bell is an important part of the city's history, and officers are trying to determine when it was taken.

Anyone who has taken pictures or videos of the bell in the last couple of weeks is asked to contact Detective Constable Andrew Veale at (519) 344-8861 ext. 6231.

Residents in the area who may have witnessed individuals at the bell, who in hindsight may have been responsible for the theft are also asked to call.

Scrap metal dealers in Southwestern Ontario are being asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service if any customer has attended, or attends, attempting to turn in the historic item.
